Cliftonwood Open Air Cinema returned with great show!

After a three year break, our special September get together had a tricky comeback.  We postponed by a week because of the Queen’s death and a rainy day, but the screening went ahead on the 16th September on a gloriously sunny autumn evening.

The Greatest Showman, a family-friendly musical, was a hit with our audience of 150 people.  And the donations we collected towards installation of a defibrillator in Cliftonwood with the Community Heartbeat Trust contributed significantly to our target of £2,500.

Mary Poppins at Cliftonwood Open Air Cinema 2019

Welcome to Cliftonwood’s family film screening. This year the date is Friday 6th September and Cliftonwood voted for Mary Poppins.

Gates open at 7pm so come early to pick your spot, the film starts at 8pm. We provide 40 chairs on a first come first served basis. Most people bring rugs etc to sit on the grass.

Mary Poppins attire could add to the fun if you fancy dressing up. Though do wrap up warm as it gets chilly later! Food, drink and toilets are available at The Lion next door.

There is no interval and so the film should finish by 10pm.

For updates keep an eye on our Facebook page

We’re very grateful to The Lion for sponsoring our event

Argyle Place Play Park Improvements

We’re really pleased that the work has started to renovate the Argyle Place Park.  They’re starting with improvements to the stepped seating area, removing the rotting wooden steps and replacing them with brick which will last much longer.  The flowerbed also being reduced in size and the fencing will be replaced.  There will be more benches and seating in the top corner.

The old see-saw and spinning bowl will be replaced by a small swing.  New surfacing will be laid under all new play equipment to meet the new safety standards. Repairs will be made to other parts of the park where there was slight subsidence.

The Council’s budget for this project has been very tight so they’re unable to spend anything on renovations to the kick about area. Once this make-over is finished we’ll have to look at a new fund raising effort for rotivating, new soil and reseeding this area.

See the latest design here and click on this link to zoom in.  The new bars will be moving further to the left towards the house wall to open up more space in the middle of the park.
