Hope Centre & Beyond! A Celebration in Hotwells and Cliftonwood

 

Join us to celebrate 50 years of HCCA with a night of poetry, music, puppetry and film. You will also get to test your local knowledge of Hotwells and Cliftonwood.

This special night of performances will be hosted by Gill Loats - manager at Hope Centre and MC at many events such as the infamous Kitsch Ball.

Between performances from some of Bristol’s finest talent, we invite you to test your knowledge in our Community Quiz: based on information you can find on our website as well as local history. 

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Hope Centre & Beyond. If you have booked for our AGM you will automatically have a ticket for this event. However, you can just come to this event

Sarah Moody

Sarah with the help of her loop box, will layer up her cello and voice into some foot tapping tunes.

Sarah has worked for over 30 years as a musician, musician and composer with theatre and dance companies across the UK. She has written and recorded music for BBC radio dramas and various films, most recently the award winning film A Year In The Field.  She co-founded The Devil's Violin, a critically acclaimed storytelling and music company that toured throughout the UK and Europe. She plays cello with The Bristol Ceilidh Quartet and The Andrew Christie Quartet.

Jo Eades - poet

Jo is a Cliftonwood resident. She began writing during lockdown and has become a regular on the Bristol spoken word scene. She first performed at the Hotwells Festival of Words, and has since been featured four times on BBC Radio Upload, performed on the Milk Poetry stage at Valleyfest and was headliner for Clifton's Heron Books anniversary celebration last Christmas.  This year she won the Lyra Poetry Festival Grand Slam at St. Geroge's and the Hip Yak Poetry Slam at WOMAD festival.

Films from Bristol 48 Hour Puppet Film Challenge. 

The Bristol 48h Puppet Film Challenge was originally created in 2020 by the House of Funny Noises. Its aim was to give people a creative outlet during the COVID 19 lockdowns. The Film Challenge is now a Puppet Place production and is heading into its fifth year!

"We want to spread the joy of puppetry and stop-motion animation far and wide, encouraging professionals and new-comers alike to take on the challenge."

Puppet Place was originally based at Hope Centre and run by Kate Pollard. It is now based on Spike Island and supports a community of over 40 artists working in puppetry and animation.
