Western Harbour council consultation

Posted on Cumberland Basin Stakeholders' Group2 by Hotwells & Cliftonwood Community Association & Cliftonwood · September 27, 2019 12:46 PM · 1 reaction

Bristol City Council has major road realignment and housing development plans for our area. They have introduced them as a 'solution' to the apparent £40 million cost of repairing the Plimsoll Bridge that sits above the Cumberland Basin and as part of fulfilling a quota for building new homes across the city.

We understand that the consultation begins today, Monday 19th, when the BCC website 'goes live' https://bristol.citizenspace.com/growth-regeneration/western-harbour/

Local consultation events are being held as follows and we strongly encourage you to attend and question the council further on these plans which, if approved, have the potential to cause large scale disruption to the area for many years.

Holy Trinity Church Clifton Vale, Bristol, BS8 4ST

Wednesday 21 August, 3pm-8pm

Saturday 31 August, 10.30am-3.30pm

Underfall Yard Cumberland Road, Bristol, BS1 6XG

Thursday 22 August, 3pm-8pm

Wednesday 28 August, 10.30am-3.30pm

The Snug in The Tobacco Factory Raleigh Road, Bristol, BS3 1TF

Wednesday 4 September, 10.30am-3.30pm

Thursday 5 September, 3pm-8pm

Broadmead Baptist Church 1 Whippington Court, Bristol, BS1 3HY

Tuesday 10 September, 10.30am-3.30pm

Wednesday 11 September, 3pm-8pm

Here is a link to Business West's 2011 pamphlet 'High in Hope 2050' which is where this 'transformative' commercial idea comes from. But it also depends on a barrage in the Avon Gorge, which would have a huge environmental impact! It's from page 114  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P_5xOn-sNCx2Nz8WLsKTdoQT-XkZd4FQ/view

HCCA has a committed Cumberland Basin Stakeholders Group who have been trying to discuss these plans with the council for nearly two years. You are welcome to get involved.
Among other issues, we have been trying to find out whether this proposed "Western Harbour" development includes any genuinely affordable homes, but as yet we have no conclusive answers on that.
