Community Links Committee

The Committee aims to work as part of the Hotwells and Cliftonwood Community Association to add to the enjoyment of life in Hotwells and Cliftonwood by:

  • carrying out projects such as local history and arts exhibitions
  • considering and responding to matters which affect the community, such as transport, new development, education, health and planning
  • developing positive relationships with local organisations and businesses to pursue issues of mutual interest.

Community Links Meetings

The Community Links group meets every two months to discuss community issues and projects.  The next meeting will be on Monday 11 September 2006 in the upstairs room at the Plume of Feathers at 6.00 p.m.

If you would like a copy of the minutes of the last meeting, please email admin@hotwellscliftonwood.org.uk

PLASTIC RECYCLING

The Plastic Bottle Recycling Bank has reappeared, situated between the Lockside cafe and the main Cumberland Basin swing-bridge as per the red blob on the map below.

Please note - This bank will take ALL plastic bottles (except brown medicine bottles, which should be returned to a pharmacist)

If driving in a vehicle with large bin-liner bags of plastic bottles, please drive towards the Create Centre then follow the 'roundabout' back towards the Nova Scotia as it's right on the corner of the Car Park under the roadway!

STOP PRESS - GOOD NEWS

Update on the chemist situation:  The Co-op Pharmacy has taken over the licence for the Hotwell Road chemist.  It is open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday.  The delivery service will continue.

PENSIONERS KEEP YOUR BUS TICKETS!!

If you travel free on the bus you are still given a ticket.  Councillor Barbara Janke is checking up on the bus company - are they using the tickets to claim more of a subsidy than they are entitled to?  You can get given a ticket to Weston even if you're only going as far as Hotwells.  So if you are entitled to free travel please hang on to your ticket and send any suspicious ones to Barbara Janke or take them to the Community Association office.

RECYCLING - CHANGES IMMINENT

Many Hotwells and Cliftonwood houses are unsuitable for wheelie bins.  If you come into this category the likelihood is that you will soon be consulted on what arrangements you would like when things change on 8 August.  (Well, that's what they say, but they'll have to be quick about it!)

PLANNING APPLICATIONS

Bristol City Council now have a planning website on which you can see plans relating to planning applications.  Go to the BCC website and follow the links.

THE CYCLING POLICE ARE BACK!

The Community Links groups was very pleased to hear that the police have decided not to do away with this sensible means of making officers more mobile and able to respond quickly.  If you need to contact the local police the number to ring is 0845 456 7000.

ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY?

Did you know there are 50 benches to sit on in Hotwells?  Mike Timmins has done a census and it's good to know that such a hilly area has a large number of places for people to have a rest.  If you can suggest a good site for an extra bench please let us know via the Community Association office.
